Ruaa Center Delivers Direct Environmental Messages to Fishermen Through an Awareness Billboard in Sira
Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consultations, and Training installed an awareness billboard on Thursday at the Sira fish market in Aden, as part of the campaign “Save Sea Turtles in the Gulf of Aden.” The campaign aims to raise community awareness about the importance of protecting sea turtles and preserving the marine environment.
Dr. Jaklin Mansour Al-Batani, Head of the Centre, stated that installing this awareness billboard is part of a series of activities and programs implemented by the Centre to spread environmental awareness among fishermen and visitors to fish markets. It also seeks to highlight the importance of protecting sea turtles from hunting and illegal trade, given their significant ecological role in maintaining marine ecosystem balance.
Al-Batani further noted that these awareness initiatives aim to strengthen partnerships with the local community—especially fishermen—who are key stakeholders in protecting endangered marine species, particularly sea turtles along the coasts of the Gulf of Aden.
The installation of the billboard was carried out in coordination with the Sira Fishermen Cooperative Association, with the participation of Fisheries Quality Supervisor Fahmi Ismail. This step is intended to educate fishermen and market stakeholders on the importance of adhering to regulations and procedures that protect sea turtles and preserve marine biodiversity.
