12th February 2026

As part of efforts to strengthen institutional partnerships for environmental protection, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ruaa centre for Strategic Studies, Consultations, and Training and the General Authority for Environmental Protection in the capital, Aden. The agreement aims to expand cooperation in programs related to environmental sustainability and marine environmental services in Aden and the Gulf of Aden.
The MoU was signed on behalf of the Ruaa centre by Dr. Jaklin Mansoor Al-Battani, Head of the centre, while Engineer Niazi Mustafa, Director General of the Authority’s Office in Aden, signed on behalf of the General Authority for Environmental Protection. Both parties emphasized the importance of unifying efforts, exchanging scientific and technical expertise, and jointly implementing awareness and training projects that contribute to conserving natural resources, protecting marine life, and raising environmental awareness among different segments of society.
The cooperation areas include the “Protection of Marine Turtles in the Gulf of Aden” project, which focuses on preserving nesting sites and reducing harmful practices affecting endangered marine species. The initiative also aims to strengthen the implementation of environmental legislation and build the capacities of relevant authorities, particularly security personnel and environmental workers, ensuring effective protection of marine biodiversity in the region.
Dr. Al-Battani stated that signing this memorandum represents a practical step toward strengthening cooperation between research institutions and relevant government entities, helping transform environmental initiatives into sustainable programs with a direct impact on the environmental situation.
For his part, Engineer Niazi Mustafa stressed the importance of institutional integration in addressing environmental challenges, noting that protecting marine turtles is part of a broader system aimed at safeguarding the marine environment of the Gulf of Aden for future generations.
This step comes within joint efforts to enhance organized environmental action and expand projects supporting marine life conservation and sustainable development in Aden and neighboring coastal areas.
