As part of the “Coastal Women Pioneers” Project, Ruaa Centre President Meets Director General of Biodiversity and Nature Reserves

Dr. Jaklin Mansoor ,the Head of Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consultancy and Training met today with Mr. Omar Baashan the Director General of Biodiversity and Nature Reserves at the General Environmental Protection Authority to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation and coordination in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation in Aden Governorate.

During the meeting, the Centre President presented an overview of Ruaa Centre’s key environmental projects and activities in the governorate, particularly those implemented under the “Coastal Women Pioneers” Project, which focuses on enhancing women’s participation in coastal environmental protection and supporting community-based initiatives aimed at reducing plastic pollution and conserving coastal ecosystems.

The meeting also addressed the Centre’s efforts to strengthen the role of women environmental advocates in protecting sea turtle hatchlings, raising community awareness of the importance of protecting nesting sites and coastal areas that serve as important habitats for marine turtles, while encouraging women in coastal communities to play an active role in protecting marine life and biodiversity.

The two sides also discussed the importance of coordinated efforts among government institutions, civil society organisations and local communities, as well as the exchange of expertise and knowledge, in order to develop more effective and sustainable initiatives for protecting the coastal environment and biodiversity in Aden Governorate.

The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening partnership and coordination between Ruaa Centre and the General Environmental Protection Authority, and of creating broader opportunities for cooperation in implementing environmental programmes and activities, while supporting and empowering women environmental advocates to contribute to the protection of natural resources and marine life.

The meeting forms part of Ruaa Centre’s efforts to expand environmental partnerships and promote community participation in coastal conservation, in line with the objectives of the “Coastal Women Pioneers” Project to support women in becoming active agents of environmental protection and biodiversity conservation.
