Ruaa Centre Meets Al-Buraiqah District Director to Discuss Strengthening the Management and Protection of Al-Azizi Nature Reserve
A delegation from Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consultancy and Training met this morning with Mr. Ahmed Al-Daoudi, Director of Al-Buraiqah District, to discuss ways to strengthen the management of protected areas in the district, with particular focus on Al-Azizi Nature Reserve, as part of ongoing efforts to conserve biodiversity and protect the marine environment.
During the meeting, both sides discussed a number of key priorities, including activating the management of Al-Azizi Nature Reserve, strengthening security protection to prevent encroachments, and adopting and implementing the reserve's management plan to ensure effective and sustainable conservation.
The discussion also highlighted the urgent need to provide waste collection bins in the Ras Amran area to reduce the dumping of waste into the sea. Ocean currents and winds carry this waste to Al-Azizi Island, posing a serious threat to marine ecosystems, including sea turtles and other wildlife.
Ruaa Centre delegation emphasized the importance of engaging local communities living near the reserve in environmental protection and waste management efforts, recognising their essential role in safeguarding the area's natural heritage and promoting environmental sustainability.
For his part, Mr. Ahmed Al-Daoudi welcomed the proposed initiatives and reaffirmed the local authority's commitment to supporting efforts aimed at protecting the district's natural reserves and enhancing coordination with relevant stakeholders.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Ruaa Centre for Strategic Studies, Consultancy and Training reiterated its readiness to provide technical and advisory support and to cooperate with the local authority and relevant institutions in strengthening the management of Al-Azizi Nature Reserve and promoting sustainable environmental governance in Al-Buraiqah District.
